Thank you for your focus and support of the car rider drop off and pick up procedures of our Walker's Grove Elementary School students. We hope the following guidelines, followed by everyone, will assure a safe and timely delivery and pick up for all students and their drivers.

Drop-off Procedures

  1. When delivering your student(s), please pull completely forward, following staff directives as to how far forward you should move. By utilizing the entire front sidewalk area, we can safely unload as many as 15 cars at one time.
  2. Never pass cars that are unloading students unless directed to do so by building staff. All cars will move forward in a timely manner when all cars are unloaded.
  3. Students not in their classroom at 8:55 a.m. are marked tardy. Your child will begin each day comfortably and successfully if they are in their classroom by 8:50 a.m. We provide supervision for students and support for car traffic at 8:40 a.m. This is when students may enter the building.

Pick-up Procedures

A.M. Kindergarten pick up:

  1. Please pull completely forward, following staff directives as to how far forward you should move. By utilizing the west side of the front sidewalk area, we can safely load as many as 8 cars at one time.
  2. Never pass cars that are loading students unless directed to do so by building staff. All cars will move forward in a timely manner when all cars are loaded.
  3. Remain in your car during student pick up . In the same manner as you work to teach your child to tie their own shoes, work with your child to buckle themselves into their car seat. As is shoe tying, buckling up is a life skill all students should master as kindergarteners. In addition, this helps move cars along in a timely manner, which is a benefit for everyone.

Kindergarten – 5 th grade afternoon pick up: (this procedure is working well due to your help and support)

  1. Follow staff directives when lining up your car for afternoon student pick up beginning at approximately 3:20 p.m.
  2. All cars will be dismissed when all students are safely in their cars.
Student safety and comfort is a top priority at Walker's Grove Elementary School. We thank you for you support and efforts with this procedure.

Traffic Flow Pattern Notice

The Walker's Grove Safety and Behavior Committee, school administration and Chief Bennett of the Plainfield Police Department developed a plan to ensure the safety of our students during the am/pm drop-off/pick-up time. This plan was developed to ensure the safety of our students and to reduce traffic congestion at 135th Street and Route 30.

•  We will now have ONE car rider drop-off/pick-up point. The North (back) lot will be for ALL car riders.

•  Busses will pick-up in the front of the building. No parents will be allowed to pick up students in the front when busses are waiting to load students.

•  When you leave the North (back) lot (IN THE PM ONLY), you will be allowed to turn right or left onto 135 th street. Cars should form two lanes when approaching the front-one for right turns and one for left turns!

•  Please, NO parking on 135th Street. Cars parked along 135th Street cause traffic congestion and create an unnecessary safety hazard. Also, there will be NO parking in Walgreen's lot and crossing 135th street to get to school.

•  CARPOOLING is encouraged to help reduce traffic congestion.

•  Remember, IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO PASS A STOPPED SCHOOL BUS FROM EITHER DIRECTION WHILE ITS LIGHTS ARE FLASHING OR ITS STOP ARM IS OUT!

Please do not pass any stopped school buses in our parking lots.

Thank you for your cooperation in this important safety matter.
