Checking Out Books

Materials are purchased to support the curriculum and leisure use of the library Media Center by students and staff. These materials are in circulation using the following guidelines:
Students
Staff
  • Books may be checked out for ONE week.
  • Grades K-5 may check out ONE book at a time.
  • Students come to the Media Center once a week at a scheduled time determined by their teacher.
  • We encourage students to use the Media Center frequently. When students finish with their book(s) they can return them and get a new one with a pass.
  • We do have an open door policy where students can return and checkout books any time during the week.
  • Reference books may not be checked out of the Media Center - students are urged to use them in the Media Center.
  • T.H.A.T. (Take Home A Teacher) may be checked out overnight ONLY and is due the next morning.
  • Magazines may be checked out for ONE week.
  • Books are checked out to all staff members for two weeks. However, we do encourage staff members to return library books when they are finished using them. We also encourage our staff to use the Media Center frequently.
  • CD-Roms may be checked out by staff only and used in their classroom computers. CD-Roms are not to be removed fr

Overdue Books

The efficient functioning of a school library media center is the responsibility of all who use it. A library is based on sharing. When materials taken out by a borrower are kept an excessive amount of time, their use is denied to others. Library media specialists should remind patrons of their responsibility to other library users.

  • If the book(s) are not returned the student can not check out another book until the book is turned in or replaced.
  • If the materials are not returned after a reasobale period of time, parents will be notified of the overdue materials by mail or by telephone.
  • We want to teach the students how important it is to be responsible. We are teaching them skills to be life-long learners. Taking proper care and replacing books if lost are two of the many library skills they are learning in the Media Center.
